M.V. Tarahne: Built on the shores of Atlin Lake and launched on She was the first gasoline powered propeller-driven vessel in the White Pass Fleet. In the late twenties the vessel could not meet any longer the demands of increased freighting and the large influx of travellers. The spring of 1928 saw the vessel's overall length increased to 36.4 m. by a 9 m. extension amidships. Larger engines and new propellers increased her speed to 12 knots. She was abandoned in 1936, another casualty of the depression years. The Tarahne has been lovingly restored and is now resting proudly in dry dock at the foot of Trainor Avenue, where she hosts many well attended community events. Photo: Blue Ice Photoworks |
